KVM, QEMU and libvirt
What does KVM do?#
KVM provides Linux kernel virtualization facilities. A compatible host with hardware virtualization (VT-x or AMD-V) is a prerequisite.
What does QEMU do?#
QEMU supplies the virtual machine process and emulated devices. With KVM it uses kernel acceleration to run guest code.
What does libvirt do?#
libvirt is a management interface used to describe and control virtual-machine resources. It sits above the VM process; it is not a separate hypervisor.
How Svavyom uses them#
Svavyom asks libvirt to define and run QEMU VMs with KVM acceleration, through its separated read-only and mutation processes.
